Precautions as DHS Expands Expedited Removal

Expedited removal is the quick process of removing and deporting a non-citizen who has been in the United States for less than two years without the benefit of a hearing before an immigration judge. Previously this was only applied within 100 miles of the border but is now being expanded to apply anywhere in the U.S. Prepare for this risk by having proof of presence in the U.S. easily available in case of an emergency. Keep photos or files on your phone or copies of documents with you. It is the burden of the non-citizen to prove their status and their presence. Jan. 23, 2025
